Work In Progress
The older I get the more recipes I seem to accumulate! I have recipes tucked away in two different recipe boxes, bookmarked in cookbooks, written on little slips of paper here and there, etc. You get the picture~ please tell me I'm not the only one! Night after night I stand in my kitchen trying to remember where I placed a certain recipe. Frankly, I am getting tired of it. I have decided I need to invest a little bit of time and effort and make a recipe binder of my tried and true recipes that I use over and over. I gave myself the following guidelines to stick by:
1. They must be typed in LARGE print. Old eyes, you know!
2. Each must be placed in a protective cover in order to avoid staining from flying batter, chocolate fingers, spaghetti sauce splatters, etc...
3. They must be put into categories using tab folders. I want to be able to put my hands on the recipe I need in a timely fashion.
4. They will be put into a large binder and it will have a pretty, decorative cover. (I'm still working on the pretty, decorative cover part;o)
I started by sitting down and sifting through my recipe boxes, cookbooks, slips of paper, etc. to find the recipes that I use on a regular basis. I was fortunate enough to have several of them already on my blog so they were easy to do, all I had to do was print them out. The time consuming part will be to type all of the other ones up but I know in the long run it will be well worth it! Hopefully I will be able to share it with y'all in the not too distant future!

Here are the ones I got from my blog. BTW, my blog has a lot more recipes than my archives show~ I need to get working on that, too!

Hi :)
No, I doubt your the only one who has recipes everywhere :)
I dont own any cookbooks...not one. Can you believe that. I guess because I didnt want to invest money into alot of cookbooks. And my Mom never used cook books. She got all her recipes from friends, magazines, tv etc. And I got all of mine from her or from the computer.
I save all mine on my computer. Will make it easy incase one day I do decide that I want it all in a binder, I can just print it off because I have them already typed up.
I cant wait to see when you have it all completed...maybe I will do one then too :)

This seems like a big job to tackle, but one that will be worth all of the time and effort. I need to work on organizing my recipes, too.

Hi, it is a huge project you are tackling but how rewarding when it is finished! I too have many recipes in many different spots and it can take sometimes take quite awhile sometimes finding one. I look forward to seeing your completed cookbook binder - it may be just the inspiration I need to organize my own recipes!
God Bless,
Karyn

I did the same thing about a year ago when I noticed I couldn't read the recipes as well. ;0)
It works wonderfully. I ended up being able to weed out the old ones I'd kept forever, but my family really didn't like. Makes room for new ones! Have fun!

I don't have the energy to get them all together at the moment..the Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak...one day.....

Ooh...I LOVE your idea of putting your recipes in protective plastic! My recipes are a huge mess, I'm going to be organizing them at the first of the year. Thank you for the tips!
Hugs,
Kelli
P.s. Thank you for the warm "welcome back," it's great to be home!

I did one a notebook a couple of years ago because I too was frustrated with trying to find recipes! Now they are right at hand. The only trouble now is that the notebook is too full. Guess it's time to get another notebook!

Oh, what a huge project, but one that you, and your daughter and daughter in law, will appreciate for years and years to come. Hmmmmm.....you know, it would just take a bit of extra effort to make three copies of each recipe after you've typed it, to make an extra book for Miss Bonnie as well as your brand new daughter. Just thinkin' out loud.....me, with recipes still in a hundred different locations. ;)

You are NOT alone with this problem! There are thousands of us in the same boat. I recently started to do the same thing with mine and then had to stop because of high priority family needs. At least I have a bunch of them in my notebook already so I can pick up the project and move forward sometime in the near future, hopefully. Please let us see your finished notebook(s). ~Adrienne~

sounds like a very ambitious project...
I hope you have good luck with it... I have been sorting through all my books... I tried to get my oldest daughter to take some and she only took a grand total of three (3)...
I wish you better luck with your recipes!!!

I got as far as printing my recipes out and putting them in binders. Never did get around to making the covers pretty. You have inspired me to get started.
