A New Baby!

Yes, I have an announcement to make. There is a new "baby" at our Home Place. My most wonderful husband Mr. P made me the proud Mama of this beauty! Scroll down . . . . . . .

It doesn't even require burping! LOL Seriously, Mr. P is such a wonderful, kind husband and I think he knew since I had a little "extra" time on my hands this would be the perfect addition to our little household:) Now y'all, I don't know if you can see it on the picture, but is is called a Singer SIMPLE sewing machine. The key word there is SIMPLE because I have never sewed except one time in my life. What a horrible experience! Picture this: eighth grade home ec., shy student with NO sewing experience, MEAN, MEAN, MEAN home ec teacher with NO patience. Shy student afraid to ask questions because of said MEAN teacher. End of the semester project, A FASHION SHOW where students had to model their outfit in front of family and friends. On a runway no less. Shy student on the runway wearing dress that even when I think about it today I cringe. WAS NOT A PRETTY SIGHT. End of home ec, and end of sewing for me:)

Okay, I am going to "shake" off the flashbacks and start anew. I will be checking all the fingers and toes on my new little baby this weekend. No promises of ever posting any actual finished projects, we'll just have to see:) I have been blessed to find a friend who is an expert seamstress to help me along but I would certainly welcome and appreciate any helpful advice, tips, etc.. to get me going! I would be "SEW" grateful!

Oh, happy, happy day!! Congratulation on the new machine. Now, Susan, you just put those awful 8th grade memories right out of your head!! You find yourself a nice, easy first project - maybe something for your lovely home, and you just dive right in there! With an expert seamstress as a friend, you'll have quick answers to any questions you have. And while your "home ec" class may have been a flop, you, my friend, have certainly overcome!! Your home making expertise is a blessing to many!

Congratulations on your new sewing machine - it looks like a very nice model. Don't let your past experience put a damper on your enthusiasm - YOU CAN DO IT, I KNOW YOU CAN!!! Go, Susan, go Susan!!!LOL

Blessings, Michelle from MI

Yay!!We certainly are blessed with such thoughtful, sweet husbands, aren't we!
I also had a MEAN h.e. teacher. Wonder if it was the same one. LOL
My mother is an excellent seamstress, but my experience was ruined also by the teacher. The good news is when I got older, it just kind of fell into place, and didn't seem so foreign to me. What a blessing to have a friend there to help you. Have fun!!

Oh Susan, I'm so happy about your new sewing machine --- and so sad about your unhappy experience with your 8th grade home ec teacher. I had a different experience: I liked mine so well that I became one myself. So, if you ever have any sewing questions and need help, please ASK! I promise to be sweet and kind and patient!!! I'm over at Gracious Hospitality and my email address is listed on my blog. Happy Sewing! I am so delighted for you! What are you going to make first? You probably said, but I was so excited for you that I didn't even finish the post. Back I go to continue reading. . .

Congratulations! I lo-o-o-ove to sew. I remember a few nightmares at the beginning, but then I got bit by the bug. I taught a friend to sew once and we started with things for a nursery (she was pregnant) like curtains, sheets, etc. We started with lots of straight seams. A skirt is a good first choice too.

Your post brought back so many memories. I remember the day my husband surprised me and brought me home a serger after months of me saying we couldn't afford it! I hope you have a blast!

Congratulations!

A 'simple' sewing machine sounds like the kind I could use too....I don't know how to sew either. (o:

I don't sew either. One day I, too, shall conquer my fears!!

Oh, you will enjoy your "simple Singer Sewing Machine." My first one was a straight stitch Singer. I still have it though I've had several different ones in 46 years of sewing.

Happy sewing..........
