Strawberry Pie & Our Love Story!
February 19 is a most special day for Mr. P and myself. You see, it was 26 years to the day that we met!! I was 23 and Mr. P was an older man of 24;o) I was teaching 4th grade at the time and got to be very friendly with one of my fellow teachers. One day, quite out of the blue, she asked me if I was dating anybody and I told her "no." I started to think, "oh no, please don't tell me you know somebody," and that is exactly what she proceeded to do.
She went on to tell me about her baby brother who had just moved back into town. As she put it, "he's a good skate." Now, I had never heard that expression before but I figured it must be something good or she wouldn't have described him that way! With much angst and hesitation I agreed to meet him ~ only because I liked and respected his sister so much. I figured he couldn't be all that horrible if he had such a nice sister.
One week later I got THE phone call. The voice that I heard on the other end was a kind one, I thought. After chatting for a few minutes we agreed that he would pick me up for dinner and a movie that Friday night. Well, as the week progressed, so did the butterflies in my stomach! By Friday night I was just a mess of nerves, thinking to myself that I must have been temporarily insane to agree to this. By six o'clock I thought my heart would beat right out of my chest and then I heard it . . . . the dreaded doorbell. I gathered what little semblance of sanity was left in me and walked hesitantly to the door. When I opened it all my fears seemed to melt away, because there, standing in front of me, was my Mr. P!!
That was February 19. We got engaged June 23 and were married October 16!! I know, I know, you're thinking we must have been crazy and truth be told, we were. We were crazy ~ crazy in love!! So, that's our story. We seemed to go against the tide as far as having successful relationships go. We met on a blind date (how many of those really work out?) and we got married very, very soon after we met. But you know what? From the very beginning, in my heart I just knew, that he was my Mr. P and he always would be!
Each year when February 19 rolls around that dear man stops by Shoney's and brings home a strawberry pie for us to celebrate with. You see, on that first date we were having so much fun that we didn't want the night to end. After the movie we went to Shoney's and talked for several hours over coffee and strawberry pie. This girl was hooked! Feb. 19, strawberry pie, and Mr. P ~ a girl couldn't ask for anything more!!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful part of your life with us. ;)
Do you remember what movie you saw?
Rebekah
Judy, I think you just gave me an idea for a future post!
Rebekah, I sure do! It was "On Golden Pond" starring Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda. The story was about the enduring love of an older couple (i.e. chick flick;o) but that's about all I can tell you ~ I was too happy thinking about the wonderful man sitting next to me:o)
To all my blogging friends, thank you so much for all of your well wishes ~ y'all are truly the best! We enjoyed the delicious strawberry pie last night, but even more than that, each other's company!
What a sweet love story. I'm so glad you met the love of your life that day and that your heart didn't stop! He sounds like a thoughtful man to bring home that pie each year. My sweetheart does things like that and it's so sweet. ~Adrienne~
