This is a portrait of my great grandmother Jessie. She was born in 1886 and this picture was taken when she was only eighteen. Of all the pictures hanging in my home this one is probably my favorite. I have such wonderful memories of her when I was growing up ~ I remember her with an apron tied around her waist bustling about in the kitchen all the while humming her favorite hymns, snapping beans on the back porch, and rocking me in her favorite chair! I have always felt such a close kinship with her because she and I loved and appreciated the simple things in life. The picture used to hang in my entryway and whenever someone would visit they would always comment (without fail) that they thought I looked a lot like her. Although I don't see it myself, I must admit that since I loved her so much they couldn't have paid me a higher compliment;o)

Many people say I look like my grandmother also, and I find that to be the highest praise. She was a beautiful woman(who I doubt that I resemble in the least) in both spirit and face. Thank you for sharing.
She was a beautiful lady and so are you.
Susan
What a beautiful woman she was! I love the style of her hair and her outfit. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You have a wonderful kinship with her--not must family but in spirit as well.
What a beautiful lady....I just love vintage photos!
That is a great photograph of your great grandmother. It's nice that you get to hang it on your wall. blessings...
I agree that you do resemble her. When I first saw her photo, that thought entered my mind. Beautiful lady! Thanks for sharing.

I was going to say that you do look like her. What a neat treasure to have.
The portrait is lovely and what a tribute to her that you share her with everyone! I always feel a twinge of sadness when I see family pictures at yardsales and flea markets...can't understand how families throw a piece of their history away :( Good for you! Cassie
Oh, Susan, she is just beautiful. How blessed you are to resemble her. :-)
Susan, I definitely see a resemblance! Your grandmother was just beautiful and I can see why it's your favorite picture hanging in your home. I really enjoyed hearing your memories of her also!
Hugs,
Kelli
What a lovely and special lady! I loved seeing her picture, and hearing about her, too.
I love old pictures and this one is so beautiful and such a special touch to the room! How special that you had such a good relationship with her too!
I have a picture that looks so much like this of my great grandma (same era) How wonderful that you were blessed to know her. Mine passed just a few yrs before I was born and I was named for her...
Oh, Susan, how beautiful she was! You do indeed resemble her ... I think it's your smile. What a precious treasure!
What a beautiful portrait! She was a lovely lady, and sounds like she was cheerful and industrious, too. I am glad you have this sweet reminder of her.
It's great that you have such wonderful memories of your grandmother.
What a beautiful picture! She even seems to be smiling, which was unusual for back then.
I'm so glad you have fond memories of your great-grandmother. ;)
Blessings,

What a wonderful photo of your grandmother as a very young lady. The women in former times looked a lot more older than 18-year-old girls nowadays, don't you think so? Well, of course they had to take over lots of responabilities at that early age.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes from Germany, Anita
