Show and Tell Friday

It's time once again for show and tell hosted by my dear friend Kelli. To see all the show and tell links you can go here.
My Great Grandmother's Portrait

(Sorry about the glare ~ you might need to enlarge to see picture fully.)

This is a portrait of my great grandmother Jessie. She was born in 1886 and this picture was taken when she was only eighteen. Of all the pictures hanging in my home this one is probably my favorite. I have such wonderful memories of her when I was growing up ~ I remember her with an apron tied around her waist bustling about in the kitchen all the while humming her favorite hymns, snapping beans on the back porch, and rocking me in her favorite chair! I have always felt such a close kinship with her because she and I loved and appreciated the simple things in life. The picture used to hang in my entryway and whenever someone would visit they would always comment (without fail) that they thought I looked a lot like her. Although I don't see it myself, I must admit that since I loved her so much they couldn't have paid me a higher compliment;o)

Many people say I look like my grandmother also, and I find that to be the highest praise. She was a beautiful woman(who I doubt that I resemble in the least) in both spirit and face. Thank you for sharing.

What a beautiful woman she was! I love the style of her hair and her outfit. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You have a wonderful kinship with her--not must family but in spirit as well.

The portrait is lovely and what a tribute to her that you share her with everyone! I always feel a twinge of sadness when I see family pictures at yardsales and flea markets...can't understand how families throw a piece of their history away :( Good for you! Cassie

What a wonderful photo of your grandmother as a very young lady. The women in former times looked a lot more older than 18-year-old girls nowadays, don't you think so? Well, of course they had to take over lots of responabilities at that early age.

Thanks for sharing and best wishes from Germany, Anita
