Letters To My Future Husband
By: Miss Bonnie

One of my favorite series growing up was the Christy Miller Series by Robin Jones Gunn. The twelve books start with Christy Miller at fourteen and follow her life throughout High School. They deal with Christy’s faith, friends, family, and job. I've read each of the twelve books many times over, and Christy has become a sort of friend to me. It may sound silly, but I remember when I had my first job interview in High School – I was so nervous! I remembered reading about Christy Miller’s first job interview and went back to the book and read it again shortly before I had to go. It made me feel better, reading about her experience.

Anyway, one thing that Christy does is write letters to her future husband. Christy writes about whatever she’s been thinking about marriage or family. I remember one letter where she wrote about how she liked lots of special attention when she was sick, and how she wanted their children to have middle names!I really loved this letter writing idea so I thought it might be neat to begin doing it myself. I started writing when I was 16 and have written a few letters each year since then. I am now almost twenty one! Like Christy, I write about whatever I’m thinking about marriage or homemaking or children – just whatever I want him to know at the time. I think it’s also a special thing that lets him know I’m thinking about him and praying for him, and have been for years, before we've even met. I have the letters in a rose tin box and keep them in a special drawer in my dresser. My plan is to surprise my husband with them on our wedding day. It is my prayer that when he reads them he will know that he has always been in my heart!

What a wonderful idea! That will be something so special for your future husband. I also liked your cookbook, my mom started one pretty much like that one when we were younger, and I still continue to add on to it over time:)

I've never heard of doing that before. It's a neat idea, and one that I'm sure your future sweetie will cherish.
I've not read the Christy Miller series before. Alaina is 11, almost 12. Are these books something you think she would be interested in now, or wait a few years?

Miss Bonnie! I have been looking forward to reading your posts!

This is a terrific idea! I did something similar - I kept a journal to my "future husband" and gave it to him on our wedding night. I still write in it each year on our anniversary so that it keeps going.

This will be a precious gift to your husband someday. He will cherish your thoughts, the sharing of your heart and your prayers.

Hello Miss Bonnie!
I prayed for my husband before I met him too ~ I knew that GOD knew who he was even though I didn't yet ~ and it turns out that he (husband) was going through some rough times around the time I was praying for him, and God helped him through them.
Blessings to You!

What a wonderful idea! Your future husband will be so blessed!!!

I kept a journal for Mr. U that I gave to him as a wedding gift. I started it right after I met him, when I knew he was "the one". My last entry was the night before our wedding. I remember sitting and weeping over leaving my parent's home, but crying for joy that I was no longer to be Miss F. but Mrs. U!!!! Such mixed emotions and he was able to read them and understand me a bit better.

I still add entries to that journal every once in a while. I do it when Mr. U doesn't know about it so it surprises him to open it and see something new that I've shared.

His,
Mrs. U

Thank you for all of your sweet comments!

Karen, I didn't start reading them until I was 14 so I would say maybe wait a couple of years. I would highly recommend them when they are older, though!

Great idea! My girls are definitely praying for their future mates, but I don't think they're writing letters. I'll have to mention your idea to them. Thanks!

I loved this post, Miss Bonnie. What a precious thing to offer to your husband. It's just such a sweet outward sign of how you've kept your heart waiting just for *him*! Beautiful!

This is a wonderful thing. I did not do this before marriage, but my husband and I have a communication journal that where we leave notes for one another sporadically.

I do however keep a diary that I call "Dear Blessing" for my (someday) children.

Lovely idea - a very nice post!
