He Never Leaves Us

One never knows what a day will bring. Last Saturday morning Mr. P and I were out enjoying the beautiful day doing some shopping, having a wonderful lunch, and just enjoying each other's company. Things can change in just an instant. The call came, Mr. P's mama had suffered a massive heart attack. The week was a blur of endless hours spent in waiting rooms, talking to doctors and trying to give comfort. In the midst of all this as we are leaving for the hospital our drainage system backs up sending water flowing all over our house. After a large check is written our bank account is considerably lower than it was before. A beloved pet of fifteen years dies and there is hardly any time to even shed tears. Stress levels remain on high alert because of extended family members who just can't "seem to get along" even in the midst of a crisis.

These are everyday occurrences for most people. Things happen because life happens. Life isn't going to be "smooth sailing" all of the time. Most of us have to travel through troubled waters and sometimes we can barely manage to even hang on. But guess what?? We do hang on! Why? Because we have a heavenly Father who loves us. He is not only there with us for the "big" things in life, such as grave illness and deaths, he is also with us in the little things such as faulty plumbing and leaking toilets. He is with us always. He never leaves us. He cares about every detail of our life. Our pain is His pain and our sorrow is His. He brings us through the valley and back up on solid ground. Oh, what a comfort that is to know!! As one of my favorite hymns proclaims, "What a friend we have in Jesus!"
