Antique Clocks
Ever since I was a little girl I had a great love for clocks. For some reason there is something very comforting and soothing about them. I know a lot of people feel "stressed" out by the clock but I am just the opposite. I love to sit in a quiet room and listen to the rythmn and the "tick tock" of each clock. They are all very unique and each one I own has a special meaning to it. If I close my eyes and listen to the "tick tocking" I am taken back to another place and time when I am sitting in my Grandfather's den having one of our wonderful chats or growing up as a young girl hearing the beautiful chime coming from my parent's bedroom! *The only time I am not particularly fond of all my clocks is when they are striking noon and I am on the telephone! LOL
The antique schoolhouse clock was in my grandparent's house in their den. It has the most wonderful tick tock!!
This clock is over 100 years old. It was in my Grammy's girlhood home in North Dakata. I love every knick and imperfection it it!
This is the antique French clock that was in my parent's bedroom. I am going to be honest here and tell you that I never liked this clock! Why? It is much to0 ornate for my taste. However, the reason I LOVE this clock is that is has the most charming chime that I have ever heard on a clock. Again, if I close my eyes I am transported back to my girlhood home.

We have just found out, not long ago, how wonderful a ticking clock can be!! Our son surprised us with a lovely gift from his deployment to Germany last winter, it is a cuckoo clock from the Black Forest. Besides the comforting tick-tock and the cuckoo on the hour, it plays one of 2 songs, a water wheel turns, dancers dance and one little man lifts a stein while the other cuts a sausage!! It is a treat to watch.....I don't think I got a thing done for the first 2 weeks or so when it first arrived!! Always waiting for the clock to start the action!! Such craftsmanship is amazing. And it is actually enjoyable to keep watch over the weights, not at all the chore I imagined it might be.
Oh, I LOVE your clocks! I've been waiting and waiting for you to do your clock post, and here it is! I do love the ticking of a clock, and older clocks have the richest sounding tick-tocks of all. They are all just beautiful.
I love face clocks! I make the differentiation because my sons have to think twice when reading a face clock since they see so few of them these days. I remember purposely buying them face watches so they would learn to read the time. (Even their clocks at school have "digital" alternatives) I related this to one of their teachers who then asked me, "Why? (Face clocks) are a dying technology."
Heaven forbid!
All of your clocks are beautiful and I am just the opposite with a clicking clock........the tick tick drives me crazy but I love the sound of a fan. We do have a cuckoo clock and I love the sound of the chime each hour. I so enjoy your blog and look forward to your next post.
Thank you so much for sharing your clocks with us, Susan. They are just beautiful! I too love the sound of the ticking. I would love a cuck-coo clock. It is on my Christmas list and I have the perfect spot for it in my livingroom. :0)

What beautiful clocks. One of the senior ladies of our church has some beautiful clocks as her father used to collect them. I can imagine it is rather noisy at noon! :o)
Love your clocks and the memories you shared about them.
We don't have an antique clock or even a clock that ticks- all ours are digital...
The ticking of clocks reminds me of my maternal grandparents whom I loved dearly and miss so much!
I had forgotten how soothing and homey the ticking of a clock can be!
Thank you so much for this post!
Time has gotten away from me lately so
I have not had time to sit and visit blogs but here I am and how timely..you've postedclocks..
beautiful treasured clocks! Today I baked *YOUR* pumpkin/cranberry loaf! It was {{{{{DELICIOUS}}}}} I felt guilty having 2 loaves and had to
share with my daughter so I sent one over to her.I used my little pumpkins that were in all my autumn displays!
