New Uses For Old Things

I love "old" things! I also am a firm believer in finding new uses for old things when it comes to decorating. I find it fun to go through my drawers and closets and find something that I find beautiful but just either didn't know what to do with it or had no place for it. This is where the real fun begins! I try to think of new ways the item can be used. I think you will be amazed at what you come up with! So bring it out, dust it off, and put on your creative "thinking cap" and see what new uses you can find for old items in your home! (The pics were taken in our guest powder room.)

An old saucer serves as a candle holder and another old china piece holds qtips!

A old china bowl becomes a container for guest ammeneties.

This is a better pic of the china bowl-if you enlarge it you can see the beautiful detail.

Old china plates become decorative wall art. An embroidered napkin my Grammy did many years ago becomes a picture. I put it in a pressed flower frame I made. The "ties"that are holding the greenery above the mirror are old candle rings!

I would love to hear about what ideas you come up with!

Hi, Susan! I LOVE this bathroom! You have used my favorite color! And I love all of your ideas! I try to find different uses for things, too - it's so much fun! But I'm brain-dead right now - I can't remember any of them!

I enjoyed looking at this website, I'm a Virginia homemaker as well. And I like linens, too!! I'm partial to the beautiful florals in the Shabby Chic line at Tar-get'!! We stayed once at a very expensive B & B and they had bed linens in a similar design as the ones I just purchased. So pretty.....
We recently moved from one part of the state to another...each area has its own special things to see and do. As a transplanted Yankee, I love being here!

Susan, Your bathroom is so pretty! I, too, tend to use things for something other than what they were intended for.

Susan,
What great ideas ~ I love finding new uses for old things, also. Your china is beautiful. And I love the idea of framing the embroidery!
