A "Hot" Tip
A Hot Potato tip that is!

One magical thing about life is that you are never too old to learn new things. Take the potato for instance. For all my married life I had been baking potatoes the same way ~ just like my Mother did. Wash them, wrap them in aluminum foil, and bake at a high temp. They turned out just "okay," but were always on the dry side. So, here comes the magic! I was watching a promo for Paula Deen one day and it said to stay tuned because she was going to show us how to make the perfect baked potato. Well, my ears perked up, and with pen and paper in hand I proceeded to watch her change the way I'll feel about baked potatoes forever!!!

So easy, peasy. All you do is:

Gather ingredients which are the potatoes (duh;) olive oil, and sea salt.
Scrub the potatoes and then rub them in the olive oil.

Sprinkle sea salt all over the potato ( not table salt)

Finally, poke one hole in the center of the potato.Place in a baking dish in a preheated 350 degree oven for one hour and voilla, you have a perfect baked potato!

Thanks for bringing a little magic into my day, Paula!!!!

Please excuse the quality of the pictures~ it's not easy taking a picture with one hand while you have olive oil on the other:)

I know not everyone is a microwave fan, but I do generally the same thing when short on time: wash the potatoe, poke holes in it several places with a fork, rub it with margarine and sprinkle with kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper, roll in damp paper towel and hit the potato function! Pretty tastey for about 5 minutes. ;)

Hi Susan ~

Thank you for sharing! I will use this method the next time I bake potatoes!

We are never to old for new ideas!

Hugs to you!

Hi Susan ~ I basically do this same thing (although I use butter instead of olive oil--I might try the oil next time to see if the flavor is better). After sprinkling with Kosher coarse salt, I sprinkle with Mrs. Dash original blend (no salt added) on both sides of the potato. It makes the potato skins SO GOOD!! Not everyone eats the skins, but I'm a real potato skin lover!! Thanks for sharing.

My mother always made them like your mother!!! I recently googled it and found out that I can just scrub them, dry them, poke them and place them right on the oven racks and then bake!! They are perfectly fluffy when done! LOVE IT!!

However, next tine I'm gonna oil and salt those little babies!! I'll bet that's even BETTER!!!

His,
Mrs. U

That's a great tip! Funny, I've been doing a little of both of what you describe, washing them, rubbing them with butter or olive oil, wrapping them in tin foil, and baking. I love Paula!

This is how I make baked potatoes except I use course Kosher salt. Once they are baked, I use butter, sour cream and shredded sharp cheddar. Yum!
