Why I Love To "Fiddle" and "Putz!"
(Just another reason I love being a homemaker)

You're probably asking yourself, "what in the world is she talking about?" lol Well, when Mr. P arrives home in the evening and asks how my day went, I usually say, "good." He then asks, "what did you do?" To which I reply, "I fiddled and putzed!" I know this doesn't make any sense to him but it makes perfect sense to me, and it is just one of the many reasons I love being a homemaker!

My Definition of Fiddling: Now, I'm not talking about the instrument (lol) but instead, going from room to room in my home and looking at ways in which I can change things up a little. I love to try to find different ways to display little vignettes in my home, switch out picture frames, move a chair from one side of the room to the other, etc... Just switching out one little picture or moving pillows from one chair to another (fiddling;o) can give my room a whole new look without spending any money!

An example of "fiddling." I moved this quilt from my quilt rack to "cozy" up the chair for the winter season. Bailey loves it:o)

My Definition of Putzing: Putzing isn't part of routine chores.Whereas, fiddling was all about the the moving around of items, putzing is taking those very items and finding ways to make them even more BEAUTIFUL!! Putzing takes some extra thought, as well as a little elbow grease, but it is well worth it when I see the outcome.! Some examples of putzing are polishing silver, adding the perfect fringe to a pillow, polishing furniture until it gleams, adding flowers from my garden to fill an empty vase, shining apples to put in the fruit bowl, etc. All of these tasks take a little time, BUT are well worth the investment because I am bringing beauty into my home! I never rush when doing these things. I love to take my time as I work and meditate on how grateful I am that I have the privilege to do this. I also love to think about how it will bless my family. It gives me such great joy to provide a nice and cozy home for my family and I am always on the lookout for ways in which I can achieve this. Some examples of putzing are . . .

Polishing apples and Adding flowers to an empty vase (examples from past "putzings")

To me this is one of the nicest ways to spend an afternoon! So, now you know what fiddling and putzing are! I think I need to let Mr. P read this so he will know, too! Maybe you are a "fiddler" or a "putzer" and you didn't even know it!

Susan ~

My husband says I like to piddle
and putter around the house.

When I am very busy, he calls me
the "little red hen." I think he
is referring to the story that
we used to read to our son when he
was little.

I sure enjoy your posts.

I guess I am just that. :o)

I bought a picture at a yard sale this past weekend. I paid $5 for it. It needed TLC ....a lot of cleaning, as I was cleaning it I noticed on the back some papers. It turned out the picture was #34 out of 1500 printed. It's called Easter Sunday. I hung it on the wall and I needed something else to go along with it and I just moved things from another room and everything looks so good. I enjoy moving furniture around and pictures, I want my home to look pretty and inviting.
Great post!
Blessings,
Patty

I do that all the time and love it. I think Alexandra Stoddard writes about the same thing in her books.

I can get started in the morning just changing one thing and before you know it, I've spent hours on the house! :)

I know exactly what you mean, Susan! I do the same thing and love it!

I love to fiddle & putz around the house, especially after the house is cleaned. Sometimes though, I spend more time of fiddling & putzing than on cleaning. lol
My father use to "tinker" around in the garage and now my brother does the same. I guess we all like our own space to play.

Teri, piddle and putter, I love that:o) How cute that your hubby calls you the "little red hen!"

Patty, what a great find! Isn't it amazing what a little TLC can do?

Julieann, I knew you would;o)

Brenda, it's amazing when you get involved in something how the time seems to fly by.

Kelli, I know you do:o)

Clarice, I think so, too:o)

Sharon, lol, I know exactly what you mean about the cleaning!! BTW, Mr. P loves to tinker, too!

Donna Kay, sounds like a great hobby to me!

Candy, I am so happy you're feeling better. We'll keep praying.

Wish I could fiddle and putz. My arthritis keeps me from doing a lot of this type of stuff. I pick and choose my projects and don't get a whole lot of them done.

so glad I found my way here because all along when I thought I was putzing I was fiddling and when I thought I was piddling, I was putzing! :-)

No matter what we call it, it makes a house a home and we are indeed blessed to be able to do that! I love being the Keeper Of the Home as well!
