The Sweet Blessing Of Home
This is the wonderful message that greeted us when we returned home from Kentucky last night! My dear Mr. P has the most wonderful ability to make me smile and also feel totally and completely loved:o)
My sisters, Miss Bonnie, and I finished cleaning out my parent's house and then finally met with the realtor yesterday. By the time that was done it was 2:00 pm and Miss Bonnie and I hopped in the car and drove nine hours, arriving home at 11:00 pm. As my sweet Grammy used to say, "I'm all done in by the shoestrings!" I don't really even know what that means but that's what she would always say when she was really, really tired:o) I have to admit that this trip was really hard, not only physically, but also emotionally. So many wonderful memories mixed with sadness about my Mom's Alzheimer's. Most times I try to stay positive, but when I get really tired I just feel like sitting in a corner and weeping over it all.
Okay, enough of that. The reason I entitled this post, Sweet Blessing Of Home, is because of the feeling that I have had after cleaning out first Grammy and Grandaddy's home and now my Mom's and Dad's. As a matter of fact I wrote a poem just after I did Grammy's house. I shared that poem when I first started blogging and it is the reason I call my blog A PLACE CALLED HOME.
Before Grammy's house was sold I had to go over periodically and check to make sure everything was okay with it. I never liked doing it because when I entered the house it no longer felt like a home to me. Sure, the funiture was all still in place, the same pictures on the wall, even my Grammy's aprons were still hanging on their hook. But, somehow a place that once was so warm and cozy now felt empty and cold. Why? The people that lived within those four walls were no longer living there. They were the ones that made that house a HOME. Their love was what made it a warm and cozy place to be. You know that warm and fuzzy feeling you get sometimes? That's exactly how I felt every time I would walk through their front door.
Home is not determined by size or price. Why, the grandest of houses are many times not HOMES, and the most humble of abodes can be the homiest of homes. HOME. A sweet word to the ears and the most wonderful place to be! I am blessed, indeed, to have A PLACE CALLED HOME:0)
Much love,
Susan P.

Susan - I know that must have been really hard on you - but you are so right - it's the people that make the home - not the walls. Glad you are back home and you have that behind you.

Bless
