Something To Ponder
Okay, I'll admit it. For most of my life I have been a "kleenex" girl. Strike that, a "whatever was on sale at the time," kind of girl! Can you relate?? It all changed one day when I had a "life altering" experience. I was at a wedding of a cherished friend. Now, if you know me, then you know I'm going to cry at weddings. As a matter of fact, the happier I am, the more I cry! Well, picture this. There I am "boo hooing" up a storm and I reach into my purse to find my tissues (which happened to be the "on sale" kind.) I start dabbing my eyes and blowing my nose and the tissue starts disintegrating before my very eyes! Little particles of "fluff" are flying all over the place and that leads me to having a coughing fit. This is in the middle of the wedding for gracious sake! I look over and see this beautifully dressed, very classy lady staring daggers my way. She then proceeds to open up her beautiful beaded purse and she takes out the most beautiful handerchief I had ever seen. She starts to dab very demurely at the teardrops that are glistening on her lovely face. Okay, you get the picture. As I leave the church with watering eyes, a runny nose and a cough I can't escape, I vow that, I too, will from that day forward carry my own lovely handerkerchief. Since then I have collected many beautiful handkerchiefs from thrift shop and yard sales. I love them because each one is completely different and I am always amazed at the work that went into something that, quite frankly you are just going to use to blow your nose! With email, cell phones, drive-thru's and even toilet brushes you can flush,I think it is rather nice to have something that is a thing of beauty that one has and something they can appreciate whenever they have the need to "kerchoo." Sure, it takes a little more effort to wash and iron, but sometimes I think convenience isn't all it's cracked up to be. Just something to ponder!

I really must come visit more often ~ so many wonderful posts. We definitely share a lot of the same interests. I have a small collection of vintage hankies which have been tucked away, but after reading your post I am going to pull them out and start using them!

I so-o-o agree--just because something is more convenient doesn't make it better, does it?

Gorgeous hankies.

I, too, have a collection of vintage hankies. Yours are just lovely!

The most wonderful part about real linen vintage hankies is that they soften with use and repeated washings! My mother left me about three dozen with tatted edgings and I just love them. Much kinder to my poor nose during hayfever season, too!

Blessings to you all!

You have a really lovely collection. I have a "Martha Stewart Baby" magazine that's about three years old. It has the neatest projects made with handkerchiefs. Everything from a little girl's quilt to dresses and aprons. Now I want to go handkerchief hunting and sew something up :)

Doncha just hate it when that happens?????

Although I can sympathize with your discmfiture, I also had to chortle at the thought of all those "fluff bunnies" swirling around. . .

I commiserate with your discomfiture, but have to laugh at the mental picture of those "fluff bunnies" flying around the church . .

Sorry for the double entry - first time I posted with a Google account and when I finally got signed in, my comment had disappeared, I THOUGHT.
